Remeo Gelato launches into Waitrose nationwide
Italian artisan brand, and three stars winner of The Superior Taste Award, Remeo Gelato, the UK’s first authentic Italian Gelato sold in a jar, is leading growth in the budding gelato sub-category, securing a listing in national retailer Waitrose.
Remeo Gelato will launch nationwide into selected stores, retailing three of the brand’s seven-strong Gelato and Sorbetto range: Dark Chocolate (72%), Pistacchio Siciliano and Stracciatella (RRP: £5.49 for 500ml).
This new retail partnership will allow Remeo Gelato to meet growing demand for authentic Gelato and lead the growth of this new sub-category. Mintel research reveals that “the popularity Gelato enjoys in the US is now making its way across Europe” and that “there is strong demand in European markets for Gelato to be made more widely available at retail”.
With Gelato retailing as a premium and luxury offering, Remeo Gelato’s retail expansion will also ensure greater premiumisation of the ice cream category. The brand will tap into demand for luxury and premium ice cream, with luxury products having seen the strongest volume growth of any sector (in addition to 15% growth in 2015).
The brand is on a mission to give Brits the quintessentially Italian Gelateria experience in the comfort of their own homes. Unlike traditional ice cream, Remeo Gelato is creamier and has an average of 35% less calories, with every jar being lower in fat, gluten free and 100% natural.
Every spoonful is produced in Milan and blended by the Mastri Gelatieri before being shipped fresh to the UK every week.

Already available on Ocado, healthy food chains Whole Foods, and As Nature Intended, Harvey Nichols, as well as independent health stores, Remeo Gelato is produced using the brand’s unique slow-churn mantecazione process, which reduces the amount of air in the product, resulting in an exceptionally denser and smoother texture and more flavour per spoonful.
